Ekspress Grupp CEO Mari-Liis Rüütsalu to step down at year-end

Mari-Liis Rüütsalu, CEO of AS Ekspress Grupp, the leading media group in the Baltic states, will step down from her position as CEO at the end of 2025, when her last four-year term expires. Rüütsalu, who has worked at Ekspress Grupp for a total of 13 years, including the last 9 years as the group’s CEO, wishes to take on new professional challenges.

“My 13 years at Ekspress Grupp have been an extraordinary journey. The company is in a strong position today and well prepared for its next growth phase. Therefore, I believe now is the right time to hand over the leadership. I plan to take on new professional challenges, but until the end of the year, I will continue contributing to Ekspress Grupp’s development,” said Mari-Liis Rüütsalu.

Ekspress Grupp’s Chairman of the Supervisory Board Ülar Maapalu commended Mari-Liis Rüütsalu for her significant contribution to the company’s development. “Under Mari-Liis’s leadership, Ekspress Grupp has undergone a successful digital transformation period, significantly increased its digital revenue base, and strengthened its position as the leading media group in the Baltic states. Under her leadership, the company has transformed from a traditional media company into a modern, digitally-focused media group,” said Maapalu.

The Supervisory Board will begin a targeted search to find a new leader for the group’s next growth period. Until a new leader is found, the existing management team will ensure continuity of the company’s leadership.

Rüütsalu will continue in her position until the end of the year. Over the next approximately four months, a thorough handover process will take place to ensure a smooth leadership transition. No changes are planned to the company’s strategic objectives with the leadership change: all business directions and partnerships will remain unchanged, and the digital focus and innovation will continue.

AS Ekspress Grupp is the leading media group in the Baltic states, whose activities include online media content production and the publishing of newspapers, magazines, and books. The group also manages an electronic ticketing platform and ticket sales points, and provides digital outdoor screen services in Estonia and Latvia. Additionally, the group’s companies organize conferences, training sessions, and events primarily in Estonia and Lithuania, as well as in Latvia. Ekspress Grupp began operations in 1989 and employs approximately one thousand people.
